For others it’s the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, where you can hunt for glass Christmas tree baubles, hand-made gold foil angels or nativity figurines and nutcrackers made of wood. For the lover of Christmas music there are many high-quality concerts, for the passionate international shopper there are many exclusive boutiques and shops with original ideas for presents and for the little ones there is the children’s Christmas and the Sternenhaus (House of Stars).

“You men and women who were once children, are children again today,” says the Christ Child at the opening of the Nuremberg Christmas market. And he is right, because with a little childlike joy in Christmas tree decorations, tinsel angels, wooden nutcrackers, nativity scenes and colorful stars, you will enjoy strolling through the romantically lit Christmas market twice as much.

The Christmas market has a seductive aroma of gingerbread, mulled wine and grilled sausages. First mentioned in 1628, its roots probably go back to Luther’s time, when the tradition of giving children presents at Christmas developed. The 180 wooden stalls, decorated with red and white fabric, still sell traditional goods such as hand-made Christmas decorations and culinary delicacies. It’s Christmas season and enjoy original Nuermberg Lebkuchen, Honigkuchen or Pfefferkuchen which are honey-sweetened German cakes, moulded cookies or bar cookies that have become part of Germany’s Christmas traditions. They are similar to gingerbread but better.

4. Gothic Churches (optional)

• Lorenzkirche: Have a peak at St. Lorenz Church is a landmark of Nuremberg that can be seen from afar and is one of the three most important churches. The “Star of St. Lorenz”, a stone rosette and the imperial coat of arms greet visitors on the west façade; inside there are valuable works by Nuremberg artists and one of the largest organs in the world.
• Frauenkirche: (if it is open) view the Frauenkirche completed in 1362, this Gothic Catholic church houses restored scriptures & historic artwork. Das Männleinlaufen
  At the stroke of 12 noon, the seven nobles (the archbishops of Mainz, Cologne, and Trier, the King of Bohemia, the Duke of Saxony, the Margrave of Brandenburg and the Count Palantine on the Rhine)

• Schöner Brunnen: Landmark, restored replica of the 14th-century Beautiful Fountain, built to resemble a Gothic spire.

• The Twin Cities Market and the Original Regional stalls are only open until December 23rd !
• Tickets: Admission fees apply for the special activities of the tours, tourists are obligated to pay for tours, food and drinks of the tour guide.
